MEETING POSTPONED

A request was received by Leaf Services on Monday the 25'Th of March that the meeting planned for 26 March 2024, be postponed due to unexpected circumstances experienced by an industry role player. In response, a decision, together with stakeholders, was made to postpone the meeting.
Information on the rescheduling of the meeting will be communicated when it becomes available.

 

INVITATION TO PROVIDE COMMENTS

On November 24, 2023, Leaf Services issued a notice in the Government Gazette, inviting all concerned parties to submit comments on our proposed inspection SOP. For additional details, please refer to the Inspection SOP page.

Established in 2015 and based in Pretoria, LEAF Services provides cost effective and innovative Inspection, Grading and Sampling for Official quality Assurance Services to businesses across South Africa who are producing a variety of Grains, Oilseeds and Grain Products intended for sale.

GOVERNMENT ASSIGNMENT

Leaf Services is an assignee of the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) appointed in terms of Section 2(3) (a) of the Agricultural Product Standards Act, 119 of 1990. As an assignee of DALRRD, Leaf Services is responsible for the enforcement of Sections 3(1) (a) and (b), 3(1A), 4(A)(1)(a), 7 and 8 of the APS Act.

The assignee is expected to undertake Inspection, Grading and Sampling for quality control for the following products:

Grains:

  • Soya Beans
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Groundnuts
  • Dry Beans
  • Canola
  • Barley
  • Wheat Bread
  • Durum Wheat
  • Soft Wheat

Dr VINCENT MAPHAI

Chairman & Shareholder

Dr Maphai has a long and distinguished career in academia, private sector and public service. He has held several board level positions and until 2014, was the Corporate Affairs and Transformation Director at The South African Breweries Limited. Currently he is on the board of Discovery Holdings, and chairs the boards of Taquanta Investment Holdings, as well as the Rand Mutual Assurance.

Dr Maphai holds a PhD from the University of Natal, an honors degree in international politics from UNISA and completed an advanced management programme at Harvard University. Dr Maphai will play a key role in managing stakeholder relationships as well as bringing his extensive experience to the team.

DIEDERICK OPPERMAN

Director & Shareholder

Diederick is a founding Director of HallMark, LEAF Services Partner Company in the UK. HallMark was created through the amalgamation of Veterinary Practices to provide professional Meat Inspection Services.

An experienced Veterinarian, Diederick has worked in the State Veterinary Service in South Africa, in mixed practice and ran a large veterinary hospital. After selling his practice he is now dedicated his time to HallMark and LEAF Services. A keen golfer, Diederick plays with a single figure handicap.

NOKULUNGA MNQETA

Director & Shareholder

Nokulunga is the founder of Leaf Services. She has a wealth of experience across many sectors including agriculture, forestry, marine, environment as well as governance. She is the founding CEO of the Eastern Cape Parks Board, an institution she established from inception to successful operation.

Nokulunga has worked as a Manager at the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as well as at the Agriculture Research Council (ARC). She is also a qualified scientist with a Masters Degree in Agriculture from the University of Pretoria and has a wealth of experience is research management and commercialisation of research outputs.

MAURITZ DE KOCK

CFO

Mauritz has extensive experience as a financial executive in large organisations. He has been involved in agricultural businesses as an agricultural economist and financial manager for more than 23 years.

He joined Afrilogic as a Director in August 2015. Mauritz is an agricultural economist and chartered accountant. Prior to his current role he spent 20 years with various agricultural businesses. As agricultural economist he worked mainly in the agricultural development divisions of inter alia VKB and Clover.

Mauritz was employed as financial manager at Omnia and financial director at Senwes. Mauritz gained extensive practical experience in expense management, strategic financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, business and control performance and management and analysis.

As a trainee accountant, Mauritz served a number of key audit clients, most notably Adcock Ingram, then a division of Tiger Brands, BP, Senwes and Clover. In his third year of articles, Mauritz was Accountant-in-Charge on the head office audit team of the latter two entities.
